SOURAV GANGULY AXED for CB TRI- SERIES (2008)


India have dropped Sourav Ganguly from their 16-member squad for the tri-nation CB Series, which starts on February 3 and the One-Off Twenty20 international at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on February 1. There was no recall for the veterans Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. The tournament also features Australia and SriLanka.
Suresh Raina, who last played an ODI in January 2007 makes a comeback after being out of the side for a year and Praveen Kumar, the allrounder who played an ODI last season, benefited from good performances in Ranji Trophy season and Piyush Chawla have been included in the squad..
Explaining the reasons behind ignoring Ganguly and Dravid, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said, "The emphasis was on fielding abilities and they wanted a young fielding side for the series. That's why you see a lot of youngsters in the side."
India's fast-bowling attack will be led by RP Singh, Irfan Pathan and Sreesanth, who missed the Test series against Australia with a shoulder injury, and Praveen. Sreesanth was recalled after a brief stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, India's Pace spearhead Zaheer Khan is ruled out because of a heel injury. Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan and Munaf have been placed on standby and will join the squad in case of any injuries. Team INDIA Squad for the ODI Tri Series:
