BILLION DOLLAR BABY CALLED 'INDIAN PREMEIR LEAGUE (IPL)'

IPL is easily one of the most popular and biggest events that India has ever seen. IPL is the brain child of BCCI Vice President Mr.Lalit Modi who actually had floated this idea in 1996. But it moved into reality only when the ZEE group launched a rival INDIAN CRICKET LEAGUE(ICL) on April 2007.

The tournament will kick off on 18th April 2008 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore when the Bangalore IPL team will take on the Kolkata IPL team. A total of 59 matches will be featured for a span of 44-Days with the teams playing each other on a home and away basis. The overall Prize money for the tournament will be $5million with the winners taking home a whooping sum of US $2million (Wiiners of the ICC World Cup 2007 in the Carribean took homeUS $1million dollars). TV rights have already gone for over US $1Billion

It is the type of Cricket where a player would be playing not according to Nationality but according to Market forces and Media attractions. A total of 79 players will be playing in the Eight teams owned by the Franchisees. The list of Franchise Team owners and the bid amounts for the various teams are as follows:
