A PAGE FROM HISTORY: HUNS - AN AMAZING RACE

Once a tribe called Xiongnu existed in china in second century B.C.Due to internal rivalry, the group got divided and large portion of the group migrated towards the North and eliminated the Alans and ostrogoths (this tribe called the “Huns” were better known as Barbarians). Then came the most deadly ruler of all times, his name was “Attila” who came into power after murdering his own brother “Bleda”. For Huns the leadership wasn’t given based on inheritance but on the strength.(That is, only the strongest could rule the tribe). Attila considered himself as a “scourge of god” and his sword as “sword of mars.” The Romans saw this tribe as a symbol of an Anti-Christ. After hearing the strength and prosperity of the Roman Empire, the Huns began a series of campaigns in the eastern Roman Empire.

The Huns had a very interesting way to terrorize their enemies; the Huns would come in charging with archers and would retreat before they come in range of roman cavalry. Huns would gain shoot arrows while retreating. The Huns indulged in the act of plundering the Roman cities and make them economically weak. The Romans didn’t know how to tackle this kind of warfare. Huns were on a killing spree and soon the mighty Roman Empire had to pay tribute to the Huns. But Attila was not interested in gold, he wanted more and more land under his command and soon he attacked again!(by this time he had conquered the eastern roman empire).

But this time, the Romans were much prepared under the command of Aetius who had a considerable experience in tackling the Huns. It was a fierce battle with both sides facing a heavy loss of men and materials. The result of this battle was a little surprising, it was a stalemate. The Roman Commander thad thought that he had done enough to halt the Huns. But he was wrong. After recovering partially from his losses, he demanded roman princess as tribute. Attila abandoned his campaign after the pope spoke with him(no one knows what happened between them)
Attila has many wives and during his wedding night he died of a nose bleed, an unusual anti-climatic death for a very strong person. His deadly campaign lasted for 7 long years. It's really surprising to know that the mighty Romans were terrorized by a small group of tribes. Really this proves the the proverb "Brain is mightier than Brawn".After Attila, his sons fought over leadership but lost major portion of the empire. They settled in southern Europe and continued to terrorize the Byzantines who called them “Looters”

NOTE: Large portion of the Huns migrated to the North. But for the small portion of the Huns, very few information about them were available. The 'Great Wall Of China' was built inorder to save China from the Hostile attack of the Huns from MONGOLIA. It is also said that a small portion of the Huns migrated towards India and settled near the Brahmaputra River Plains where they became Staunch Devotees of Goddess Kaali.
